5 Books to Read During 75HARD

Dedicated to Discipline: Lifestyle: 5 Books to Read During 75HARD

Dedicated to Discipline is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means Dedicated to Discipline to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

75HARD requires the participant to read 10 pages in a nonfiction book every single day. This means that if you go through 75HARD in a single round that you’ll have read 750 pages, which is a decent amount of reading! For some of us, this is easy. Others, however, may have never finished a book in their adult lives, making this part of the program much more challenging.

I think that having a book that is a good read makes all the difference.

I hear often that “nonfiction books are boring”.

My argument is that some nonfiction books are boring, but not the good ones. A good nonfiction book keeps the reader engaged, all while the mind takes in and stores information. I also argue that nonfiction books encourage, and sometimes force, the reader to think critically. Nonfiction breeds intellectual thought that can’t be achieved in any other manner.

I have experience with this from when I was in college. Being in a biology program, my reading on a weekly basis of absurdly complex information was ridiculous. It was during this period of time, however, that I was consciously… enlightened. I was thinking more complex thoughts, thinking of solutions that didn’t exist for current issues, and coming up with answers to questions that were never even asked. It was great, but it was also an incredible amount of work. I still read these types of writings every so often for this reason, and I now also enjoy the material.

With all of that said, I’m going to provide you with a list of books that I recommend reading during 75HARD. These books range in specific topics so that you won’t get bored. You’ll also become more well-versed in a variety of topics, which is never a bad thing. All of the books I recommend I have read myself – I wouldn’t recommend a bad book for you.

I will have links to where you can purchase each book. Please keep in mind that if you do purchase a book from the links that Dedicated to Discipline gets a very small cut of the sale at no cost to you. This helps the website immensely and allows me to provide you guys with quality content.

Let’s get started.

The List

1.)     I Will Teach You to be Rich by Ramit Sethi

Let’s face it, the majority of us weren’t taught how to become rich. Whether it be from our parents, teachers, or whoever, we weren’t taught how to use our money to our advantage. Ramit recognized this and wrote I Will Teach you to be Rich.

This is in my top 10 book list of all time. Ramit did an absolutely incredible job writing the book. It’s funny, witty, and, perhaps most importantly, will teach you how to be rich. The book gives an actual method of how to become rich for the average person.

So, what are you waiting for? Go read this book and start your own personal wealth.

This book is 272 pages, so it will give you a good 27 days worth of reading on 75HARD.

2.)     Leadership Strategies and Tactics: Field Manual by Jocko Willink

We’ve gone over Jocko before but I’ll say it again – Jocko is one of the most influential men on this planet. His experience in the military, business, fitness, and life, in general, gives him the ability to give advice on leadership and other topics that will benefit us for the rest of our lives.

Leadership Strategies and Tactics: Field Manual is a guide to lead people. Jocko emphasizes that the book is a reference guide and not necessarily a book that should be read from start to finish. The book should be referenced whenever a leadership scenario arises and a person needs advice or assistance. Jocko goes over almost any situation that a leader may face.

While reading this book, really dive inside your own personal thoughts and experiences as a leader. Even if the advice given doesn’t pertain to a situation currently, think about past experiences that could have been handled better given Jocko’s wisdom.

This book is 320 pages, so it will give you exactly 32 days worth of reading on 75HARD.

3.)     Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins

David Goggins has a unique background that not many others can relate to. He had an absolutely terrible childhood, but he rose above, conquered huge challenges, and became a Navy SEAL. Goggins is one of the most driven, dedicated, motivating, unstoppable people I’ve ever read about.

Goggins’ claim to fame is his stone-cold, no BS methods in every aspect of life. He goes running in the same clothes when its 15 degrees and 70 degrees outside. He holds the record for most pull-ups done in 24 hours and runs 100+ mile marathons. The man is an absolute monster, and diving into his mindset will give you an edge over your opponents. You’ll also learn how to “take a soul”.

Can’t Hurt Me is 364 pages, so it will last you a solid 36 days on 75HARD.

4.)     Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi

Never Eat Alone changed my life.

I read this book during a time that I was stuck. I didn’t know where I was going or what I was doing. That’s when I decided to read the book.

The overall basis of the book is that you should never eat alone because you are wasting opportunities to eat with people that can have significant impacts on your life, and not necessarily your personal life. Whenever you eat, it should be with someone that you can forge business relationships with to better your future. This isn’t to say that these relationships are shallow, but having a meal allows for a more intimate, personal time to connect over aspects of business.

After reading the book in 2019, I received an email to join a banquet dinner. I didn’t know a single person at the dinner of hundreds of people, but the book told me that I needed to go.

I went to the dinner and guess what? I was hired for a job that I had been longing for.

I was just going to write that Never Eat Alone is another book on my top 10 list, but every book within this article is on my top 10 list.

Never Eat Alone is 400 pages, so you’ll get exactly 40 days of reading from it.

5.)     Relentless by Tim Grover

This is another sort of determination and motivation book on this list, but I don’t think the list would be complete without it.

Tim Grover is a good friend of Andy Frisella – you can hear Tim on Andy’s old podcast “The MFCEO Project”. Andy talks about how Tim’s book Relentless changed his life.

Tim was Michael Jordan’s, Kobe Bryant’s, Dwayne Wade’s, and many other athletes’ personal trainer. He was a master of his craft and took no BS. He categorized different people into varying categories – coolers, closers, and cleaners. Which one are you? I guess you’ll have to read to find out.

Relentless is 272 pages, so it will give a solid 27 days worth of reading.

Conclusion

With the combined books, you’ll have a total of 162 days worth of reading. Unless you fail multiple times, you’ll have enough reading for multiple rounds of #75HARD.

I hope you guys liked this article. Depending on the book I’m reading, my reading can either be a great or awful part of the day – don’t take chances and just read the books I just mentioned. You’ll thank me.

As always, thank you for reading and I will see you next time.
